What do we do?

The common goal of the individuals, civil society organizations, institutions, and companies that make up WEAll is to work towards transforming the current economic model—based on the paradigm of unlimited, extractive, alienating, and consumerist growth, and incapable of meeting people’s essential needs—into a more socially and environmentally just model: the Economy of Wellbeing.

We promote the ecosocial transition to halt the degradation of the planet, eradicate poverty, combat social inequality, and place the sustainability of life as a priority and the guiding principle for productive activities. This ecosocial transition requires the participation of the broadest range of sectors of the population and initiatives that contribute their vision and transformative capacity towards an Economy of Wellbeing.

In the Iberian node, we organize ourselves into projects, which we carry out within the node or in collaboration with other organizations, to pursue these goals.

Projects currently underway

Promote a Law on the Well-being of Future Generations in Spain and Portugal.

To address the systemic, environmental, and social crises we face, a profound transformation is necessary, and many governments are already mobilizing in this direction. But declarations of intent are not enough. A real commitment is needed, along with providing governments with the tools to effectively implement these changes and establishing institutions to monitor compliance with the agreed-upon measures.

For this, we are mobilizing to promote a Law that guarantees that all institutional policies respect future well-being, beyond the short term. A law inspired by those that have already been approved in Wales and the Balearic Islands.

Citizen communities for the energy rehabilitation of buildings

Heating and cooling homes is responsible for at least 36% of the emissions that cause climate change. Furthermore, rising energy prices are making it increasingly difficult for families to afford their electricity and gas bills. Moreover, most buildings are highly inefficient, with up to 85% of heat lost through walls and ceilings in many cases. The European Union is promoting an ambitious grant program to renovate buildings and achieve significant energy and cost savings. However, these grants are not widely known, are unevenly distributed across regions, and are not easy to access.

At Weall Iberia, we are collaborating with various organizations to disseminate these ideas and help empower citizen communities to facilitate reforms and access to aid. This can be a strategic project with a multi-level impact, serving as an entry point for many people to the concept of ecological and social transition.

Completed projects

Workshop “communicating change”

The new economies have a very powerful message, but one that is also strongly different from the prevailing social and economic thinking in our society. When we try to explain it to people who have never heard of it, and whose thinking is shaped by what they see in the mainstream media, a number of significant barriers always arise.

At WEAll Iberia, we’ve prepared a workshop that explores a series of common obstacles and how to overcome them. We’ll also create different profiles of people to better understand how they think, what they want, and what they fear. The goal is to gain a clearer understanding of how new economic models can help different types of people and how to best communicate these concepts in a way that is both understandable and appealing.

The workshop materials are published, so that they are very easy to reproduce in other places.
